Courchevel

Courchevel is a reknown as part of the largest linked skiing outdoor playground in the world called the Les Trois Vallées (Three Valleys).

Located in the Savoie region of the French Alps, Courchevel combines the French’s love for winter sports in distinctive villages, surrounded by the thick wooded landscapes of the Alps. The area attracts local and international ski enthusiasts of all ages and levels of expertise. Courchevel valley also includes the town of La Tania, which had previously been built as accommodation for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympiads.

Each of the four villages in Courchevel offers varied terrain to suit both the first-time skier as well as the expert ski showman. In fact, each village is named for its altitude in meters—with any of the villages offering accessible choices for memorable visits.

Courchevel 1850 is the highest point in the region, also bearing the distinction of being the first resort in France to be constructed from scratch rather than based around an existing village. The unique mini-airport in Courchevel 1850 is usually used to fly in urban dwellers for a weekend jaunt in the snowy outdoors. Its quality hotels and Michelin restaurants are known throughout region though may be a bit pricey considering its pedigree.

Courchevel 1650 (Moriond) noticeably caters to a younger, more urban set of winter-lovers. Its cafes, clubs and nightspots provide an energetic escape for patrons once the sun goes down the slopes.

For those searching for a more down-to-earth village to spend the winter weekends at, there is Courchevel 1550, the original Courchevel. The area boasts a more family-friendly ski resort with reasonable prices.

On the other hand Courchevel 1300 (Le Praz) is also a pleasant village to visit, with exceptional ski runs that hold the distinction of having hosted the ski jump category for the 1992 Winter Olympics.
