Chamonix

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc or, more commonly known as, Chamonix is a town in eastern France, at the foot of scenic Mont Blanc.

It is a popular winter sports resort in France that holds the reputation of having some of the best skiing runs in the world.

As the highest European mountain west of Russia, Mont Blanc in Chamonix holds a special allure as an ideal outdoor playground for ice or rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding and paragliding in the snowy winters.
While during summer, the area attracts mountaineers who scour the north face of the Dru, the Frendo Spur on the Aiguille du Midi or the avid mountain biker on its winding mountain roads

Constructed in 1955, Chamonix’s spectacular cable car system was then the highest cable car in the world.
With its route going up to the Aiguille du Midi (3842m), the Chamonix cable system together with a cable car ascending to Point Helbronner (3462m) from Entréves in the Aosta Valley (Italy) makes it possible to cross the entire Mont Blanc Massif by cable car alone for a truly sumptuous view of the alpine mountains.

Regional specialties enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike to warm up evenings would include a starter of toasted goat's cheese salad with nuts, a unique table-side service called pierrade or pierre chaude, where a hot piece of slate allows guests to cook your own slices of meat, and hearty rustic dishes of croute savoyarde (toasted bread soaked in white wine and baked with cheese and mushrooms or tomatos), and tartiflette (a hearty dish of potato and bacon smothered with roblochon cheese) to fill the belly after a long day on the slopes.
