Nice

The city of Nice is reknown throughout the world as the capital of the French Riviera on the Mediterranean Sea.
A highly multicultural seaside town, Nice is celebrated for a mild climate touched by the east sea winds. The city is liveliest during the carnival festivities, in which, as at Rome, battles are waged with sweetmeats and flowers.
The whole frontage of Nice is composed of fine embankments beginning with the Quai des Ponchettes.

Constructed in 1770 round the base of the castle hill, the embankment grew westward to the public gardens and the municipal casino. A pier projecting into the sea from the promenade contains a "crystal palace."
A castle in ruins overlooking the harbour is a key scenic vantage point overlooking the city. Guests are invited to climb the stairs to the viewing platform some 90 meters above Nice for a breathtaking panoramic vista.
Visitors are encouraged to walk through the Place Massena, one of the largest public squares in the city and the principal resort of foreign visitors.

Lazy lunches by the shore welcome tables of seafood prepared in regional flair of Nice such as the pan bagnat (a tuna fish sandwich), soupe de poisson (a fish soup, made with chili aioli, croutons, and grated cheese), salade nicoise (a light raw vegatable salad made with seafood) with a nice glass of local wine. Meals are usually ended with tourtes aux blettes (small sweet tartes made with savoy cabbage, raisins, nuts, and powdered sugar).

Museums preserve the beauty of Nice, both modern and ancient. The Musee Chagall houses collections of the famed artist, including stain glass windows by the artist, as does the Musee Matisse provide a home for Matisse art. On the other hand the Musee et Site Archeologiques de Cimiez chronicles the ruins of the Gallo-Roman settlement in Nice, particularly life during that period.
